Television Educates Children or Bring Damage to Them?

Education is a very important element in our life. People can get education in some ways. We can get education in our family, our school, our environment, and we can get it in some media like newspapers, magazines, books, even in electronics media like radio, hand phone, and I think television is the most things we often use in our lives.
Television can bring about paradigm shift in our lives and also has impact on everybody’s life. Even we look at life and surrounding events has changed because of television. Now, in every single household people have at least one or two TV sets, which they spend much of their time in front of TV which do not bring any knowledge and education on it. Especially for children they spend more of their time watching TV than studying.
Television like two sides of coin, TV can be beneficial as well as otherwise. TV can educate children and also can bring damage to them. The first advantages and the foremost is that television is the greatest source of information, just one click on remote control we could find number of informative and educational channels, like Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, History, ect. It can be train children mind whereas stimulates the same time. Also, TV can be a refreshing in appropriate with child’s favorite and hobbies. Vice versa, TV becomes extremely easy for children to get several of TV channel, whereas some contents containing violence, sex and other inappropriate material. If the parents lack of monitoring them they will easy to show anything and everything on television.
So, television can be educate or not depends on the way of parent monitoring them, give them appropriate channels to watch, and give them limited time in front of TV. Children are the important asset, so that we should save them from bad and appropriate thing, and keeping them get knowledge and education as long as we watch them.

·       ·         Have you analyzed / conducted the same activity before? If yes, in what subject? If not, why?
No, I haven’t, because I’ve never been study writing that give me vocabulary analyze software before, only ordinary writing or written task.
·         What is your opinion about the analyzing vocabulary levels through   www.lextutor.ca?
I think it’s very useful, especially for students because it’s help them to know their vocabulary level. Also, it can motivate them to improve their writing more and more. But, in my point of view, it has a little bit decreased, because this software only analyzes the vocabulary and not sees the grammar. I mean when the writer repeat words that same over and over again that this software give his or her words high level and the grammar is wrong.
·         What do you think about your vocabulary levels after analyzing them through www.lextutor.ca?
After use this software, the result of my writing is poor actually. There so many blue words that mean common words in my writing. So, with this software I can see my capability in writing is still low. Also, like I say before, it motivated me to improve my writing skill more.
·         In what course do you need to improve your writing and academic vocabulary?
I think the entire course needs to improve my writing and academic vocabulary, but the course that should improve it is writing course.
·         Are you familiar with the vocabulary levels given in www.lextutor.ca?
Have you learnt about those vocabulary levels?
No, I haven’t found the vocabulary that gives some of words level like that. I don’t know the words like media, channel, and source are academic writing, ect.
·         Is academic vocabulary important for you as a university student? if yes, what for?, if not, why?
Yes, it’s very important, because there are some task that lecturer given need academic writing, such as making paper. And of course I need it when I want to make my thesis in the future.
·         Do you think that this analyzing activity is useful to support your learning, especially in writing?
Yes, of course. Because it shows to me the level of my writing and give me more information about the words that include common, academic, ect.
·         In what course/learning material do you think should be suggested to improve your writing ability and high vocabulary level quality?
In Writing course.
·         Do you think that ICT/CALL/internet utilization is useful? Why? And in what manner?
I think it’s very useful, because I can use it to improve my English ability and I can use it to teach my students in the future.
·         What is your impressions and suggestions of CALL subjects and activities?
CALL is interesting subject I have learned, without this subject may be I don’t know there is software that can use for teaching and learning. Also, without it may be I don’t know how to design my blog, or use skype, or use software. So thank you for fiving me such a useful course like CALL.

·         ‘What do you think about all your previous subjects and learning materials? Are they effective enough to support your vocabulary development? Explain your ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer briefly’.
              No, I don’t think so. Because the previous subject used such a boring method, like read the material then translate the words that I don’t know the meaning.  It’s usually not enough to just read through a list of words with my definitions or translations and try to remember them. Sometimes I think memorize the words better if I do something with them. Even I found the same word I can’t remember the meaning. Also, the lecturer didn't give any explanation about the level of the words, so I just wrote and used the words without know the level of my writing vocabulary. So, thank you for giving me and my friends such useful software to see my vocabulary level.
